Public Space at Lyon

The workshop centred on the project of architecture.
Architecture understood as conscious practice, capable of uniting one’s own “artistic vocation” to a consolidated “traditional technique,” rooted in the past and yet always open to new horizons.
The geo-morphological ambit of Lyon is found in that particular part of France between the river Rhone and its tributary, Saône.
The area of the study is found in front of the railway station of Lyon.
The project centres on the re-planning of the area through a fixed scheme of graphs which, coming from the nineteenth century of the city, mark the insertion of walls along the whole new public space. The whole is thought ultimately to realize a square that includes not only the front of the station, but along the two arms, also include the two banks of the rivers Rhone and Saône.
The study tries to realize a new entry of the city, enriched with parking and transit, a new square, a residences, a hotel, an information centre, restaurants, a bar, offices, a zone for expositions (closed and open).
The result is a hinge in the form of a spiral that rewrites and englobes the new urban web.

Il Laboratorio pone al centro dell’attenzione il progetto di architettura, inteso come prassi consapevole, capace di coniugare la propria ‘vocazione artistica’ ad una consolidata ‘tradizione tecnica’, radicata nel passato ma aperta a sempre nuovi orizzonti.
L’ambito geo-morfologico di Lione si colloca in quella particolare parte della Francia compresa tra il Rodano e il suo affluente Saona….
L’area di intervento si trova nella parte antistante la stazione ferroviaria di lyon.
Il progetto punta alla riqualificazione dell’area attraverso una trama fissa di tracciati che, provenendo dalla parte ottocentesca della città, scandiscono l’inserimento di setti murari lungo tutto il nuovo spazio pubblico.
Il tutto è pensato al conseguimento di realizzare una grande piazza che ingloba non solamente la parte antistante la stazione, ma si allunga come due bracci, che accolgono anche le due sponde del fiume Rodano e Saona…
L’ intervento tende a realizzare una nuova porta della città arricchita da un luogo di sosta e di transito, da una nuova piazza , da un edificio per abitazioni, un albergo, un info point, ristoranti, bar, uffici, zone per esposizioni (chiuse e all’aperto).
Il risultato è una cerniera a forma di spirale che riscrive ed ingloba il nuovo tessuto urbano.
