Six municipalities, one city. A single intervention that can unify the different needs and identities of the aggregating towns. The project fulfill the expectations of the new Mendrisio and its intent of becoming a new pole of interchanges and cultural connections: six embossed volumes, each corresponding to a municipality, create a striking entry to Mendrisio and Ticino at the same time.
It is not only a project to show off: it’s a project that links.
It links two different countries, Italy and the Switzerland, and six distinct towns belonging now to the same city.
It links people as well, who are pushed to experience collective meetings in the exhibition and multipurpose halls that the project creates.
The ain volume corresponds to Mendrisio and it connects the other pavilions with itself, as to show its leadership in the aggregation process.
The six pavilion are shaped according to the municipalities size and inhabitants numbers. Underneath the exhibitons hall are located offices and services spaces, and the parking level

Sei comuni, un’unica città. Un intervento che possa unificare i diversi bisogni ed identità dei centri che seguono l’aggregazione. Il progetto soddisfa l’esigenza della nuova Mendrisio di imporsi come nuovo polo di scambi e connessioni culturali: sei volumi aggettanti sull’autostrada, ognuno corrispondente ad uno dei sei comuni, creano un avvolgente ingresso alla città ed al Ticino allo stesso tempo.
Ma non è solo un progetto che vuole mostrare e mostrarsi. E’ un progetto che unisce.
Unisce due diversi Paesi, Italia e Svizzera, e al contempo sei diverse entità urbane che appartengono ora ad un'unica città.
Unisce anche le persone, che sono spinte a sperimentare nuovi incontri collettivi nelle sale espositive e polifunzionali che il progetto crea.
Il volume principale, posto centralmente, corrisponde alla città di Mendrisio e lega gli altri padiglioni a sè, come a voler simbolicamente indicare il ruolo trainante della città nel processo d’aggregazione.
Gli altri volumi seguono un disegno basato indicativamente sulla propria dimensione e posizione geografica. Al di sotto degli spazi espositivi sono previste zone d’ufficio, terziario e servizi, con alla base, al livello autostradale, lo spazio per i parcheggi.
